Progressive Housing

I live in Houselink. It is the greatest co-housing going! Before I lived in Houselink, I was homeless. I have had a rough time with Manic Depression over the years. I have been admitted voluntarily, and involuntarily, to a Mental Health Treatment Centre seventeen times. I've been around the block.

Throughout my life, I kept having admission after admission. The medication wasn't working. Have I learned at least a little from each admission? Well, during my last "moment of mania," I spent every cent I could get my hands on, changed my name, picked up a nickname, Fargo, and got a tattoo. I wised up too little, it seems to me, my friends.

Except for that little blip, for the past seven years I have been well. From living in supportive housing, I have experienced nothing but good mental health.

When I'm feeling well I want to make a contribution. I volunteer with The Dream Team. Human beings need to make some contribution. It is good for our collective mental health.

Research, I believe, has finally found a cure for me. I believe the newly developed medication I'm taking will mean I never again have to go to a treatment centre. Still, my diagnosis I'm told is treatable, yet not curable. Where are the cures? Where are the recoveries? I take several prescribed medications for my illness and none of them are candy.

The past is behind us. We need to concern ourselves in the present. Our future depends upon what we do now. We can make a positive difference in our lives. The Dream Team is a group of people who believe that better mental health is first to be found through supportive social housing. We believe that and we advocate for it! I speak out to express my sincere gratitude for housing. Others like me, I know, are living on the streets.
Social supportive housing does much more than lift people off the streets. It supports them. The supportive Houselink staff reaches out continuously to help ensure the well-being of its members.

To reiterate: Give us safe supportive housing and expect from us the same as any other citizen.
